FixSlate.

Your first job, step by step

The whole visit is one page, top to bottom: finished steps collapse into green check rows, the current step is open, the next ones wait below. Almost nothing needs a Save button — fields save themselves as you move on.

Before your first job

Pick up your magnet cards (you photograph one on the appliance to close every job) and paper invoice forms (for customers without email). Tap your county for the pickup address:

Pinellas County
Reliable Parts Clearwater: 4900 Creekside Dr, Clearwater, FL 33760 · Mon–Fri 8 AM–4 PM
Hillsborough County
The office — dispatch will share the address.

1Arrive & start

The customer’s name, phone and address unlock as soon as the job is yours. Check the yellow Notes from dispatch — gate codes and special instructions live there. Then:
Call customer(813) 555-0123
I have arrived
Start work
  • Call at least 20 minutes before — the green button dials.
  • Tap I have arrived at the door (the app records your check-in), Start work when you open the appliance. This step turns green — on to the estimate.

2Estimate — the checkbox starts the repair

First the photos, under one button: the magnet card on the appliance (when you leave one) and the model & serial sticker — both are required before charging later. Then diagnose and fill in the numbers: Labor and Part — your cost. The part goes to the customer at your cost, no markup. The app shows the total the customer pays, tax included.
Labor$200.00
Parts$150.00
Total repair cost (before tax)$350.00
Customer agreed to the estimated repair total of $350.00 plus tax.
  • Agreed? Tick the bold checkbox — that saves the estimate and starts the repair. No extra button.
  • Declined? Tap Declined — service call: the visit closes as a flat fee for coming and diagnosing, no parts, no labor.
  • Later you can tap the green Estimate row to reopen it — and adjust the numbers while the job is still in progress.

3Do the work: part OR finish

One screen, two roads — the divider makes it obvious:
Need a part? Collect deposit
OR
Finish the job
Replaced heating element, tested cycle.
  • Need a part? Collect deposit — enter the part and take the deposit by card with the customer’s signature (parts are only ordered with a deposit). The job waits in “Awaiting parts”; come back when it arrives and finish as usual. The deposit comes off the final bill automatically.
  • Finish the job — type what was done and tap anywhere: the job completes by itself and the closeout opens below. No payment is taken yet.

4Closeout checklist — all of it is required

The app will not let you charge until every line is done — the amber box says what is still missing:
Still needed before charging: customer & appliance details, job photos (2+), signature.
  • Customer & appliance details. Name, address and brand — the invoice is built from these; the model number (sticker inside the door/frame) is optional but welcome. The block saves itself when everything is filled in.
  • Job photos — you took them back at the start (magnet card + model & serial sticker); the app just checks they are there.
  • Customer signature — they sign on your phone; it saves by itself when they lift the pen.
  • Customer email — the customer types it themselves; it saves as soon as they tap away. The receipt and invoice go there.

5Enter the money and charge

The numbers from your estimate are already filled in — check them, fix if the job changed. The form works both ways: type the total and the part cost fills in, or type the amounts and the total adds up. The part is billed to the customer at your cost; tax is added automatically.
Labor$200.00
Parts$150.00
Sales tax$26.25
Customer pays$376.25
Your payout$202.50
Then pick how the customer pays:
  • Card — on your phone, the customer taps or enters the card. Money goes through Stripe.
  • Cash — you keep the whole amount. Your share is already in your hand; the company’s part is deducted from your future payouts. The screen shows the exact number before you record it.
  • Check — appears only when dispatch has it switched on: photograph both sides of the check, then record the payment.
Commercial customers on terms get an invoice instead — one button, no card.

6How your pay is calculated

Your pay comes from the job’s labor — parts are billed to the customer at cost and reimbursed to you in full, so they are not part of the split. The split:
  • 50% of the first $250 of profit,
  • 55% of everything above $250 — every extra dollar you add to the job pays you 55¢,
  • parts reimbursed in full on top — what you spent on the part comes back to you separately,
  • tax is passed through to the state and affects nobody.
LaborYou get (+ parts back)
$75 service call$37.50
$250$125.00
$400$207.50
$600$317.50
The charge screen shows your exact percentage and dollar amount live, before you charge — no surprises. Example: labor $300 + part $50 → your pay = 50% of $250 + 55% of $50 = $152.50, plus $50 parts back = $202.50.

7Done — where the money goes

The customer gets a receipt with a PDF by email; the job turns Paid. Card money: your share appears in Payouts as “on hold” for a few days, then goes to your bank. Cash jobs: your share stayed in your pocket on site — the company’s part shows under Fees pending and clears out of your next payouts automatically.
One hard rule

You work as a subcontractor. Never give the customer your personal or company contacts, and never promote your own business on a FixSlate job — that includes using a company name as your invoice name. All repeat work goes through dispatch. Breaking this means removal from the platform.

If something goes wrong
  • Can’t make it? Ask for a reschedule on the job page — dispatch confirms with the customer.
  • Returning a job to the board is the last resort: if nobody covers it before the appointment, a $75 no-show fee is withheld from your payout.
  • Anything unclear on site — Call dispatch, the button is at the bottom of every page.
